Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

1. Do you provide the beds for the race?

Yes, the beds are provided by the Bed Race Committee.  They are reinforced hospital beds, fitted with handles and industrial-grade wheels.

2. Can I still donate even if I don't have a team to race?

Yes, you can donate in several ways.  You can donate money by filling out the form located on our donation page (see "Donate Now" button located to the left of this page).  Or you can donate via PayPal or credit card by clicking on the folllowing link:

Additionally, you can donate gifts that will be used as prizes for the event.  Feel free to contact us to donate at (734) 241-2811 or email info@bedracetoaidchildren.org.

3. When can I donate?

Although we concentrate our solicitation for donations around the time of the Bed Race, we take donations year round.

4. Are my donations tax-deductible?

We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, so all of your donations are likely tax-deductible.  Consult your tax advisor to answer specific questions related to your donation.  We can provide our tax ID number and a receipt upon request.  Send all requests to info@bedracetoaidchildren.org.

5. What if I want to sponsor a bed in the race but don't have a team?

We will work with you to provide a team to race your bed.  Send an email to info@bedracetoaidchildren.org or call 242-1545 to inquire about this.  We can also assist on creating a banner to display on the bed during the race if you desire.  In addition, you could provide t-shirts/hats for your team to wear during the race!

6. What if I have a team to race but no sponsor?  Can you match me up with a sponsor?

Absolutely!  See the previous question.  We are always looking for teams to match up with sponsors.  Send an email to info@bedracetoaidchildren.org or call 242-1545 to inquire.

7. How much is it to race?  Why did you choose this amount?

The registration fee is $200 per team to enter the Bed Race.  This is the cost to provide one bed, with bedding, to a child in need in Monroe County.

8. Can I register the day of the event?

Yes!  Although we encourage you to register as early as possible, we can likely accommodate you on race day.  But remember, registering early will ensure that your team is provided with t-shirts, which may not be available to you if you wait until race day to register.  We can also accommodate requests for racing against other teams if we receive your registration early.  And the earlier you register, the easier it is for our scheduling volunteers!

9.  How is the course laid out?

There will be three courses that originate at the intersection of First and Washington in Loranger Square.  Three teams will race at the same time (one on each course).  You are required to complete 2 laps on your assigned course.  Each course consists of a simple loop, down and back.  There will be cones that will mark the start and end of the course.  In addition, a referee assigned to each course can review the layout with you before you start and help answer any questions that you may have.  There will also be volunteers in the staging area to assist you.

10. Do you have a list of the rules for the race?

Yes!  A copy of the rules can be found by clicking on the Bed Race Rules and Regulations.

11. How will I know my scheduled race time?

If you register early, you will be contacted the Friday (October 14) before the race and be given your race time.  You are encouraged to check in at least 45 minutes prior to your assigned race time.  You are also encouraged to come earlier or stay later to cheer on your competitors and to participate in the fun and activities.  Ideally, we would like everyone to be there for the entire event!

12. Is there a rain-out day?

Due to the large effort requireed for race setup and arranging volunteers, we will not be holding a rain-out day.  If the event is rained out, it will be posted on our website as soon as a determination is made.

13. Can we decorate our bed?

Yes!  As a matter of fact, decorating your bed is encouraged.  There will be prizes for best costumes/decorations as determined by our judges.  You will be given 15 minutes prior to the start of your race to decorate your bed.  Some limited supplies (poster board, markers, etc...) will be available to you on race day for this purpose.

14. Will there be food available?

We will have a table set up with refreshements such as donuts, cider, coffee, and water.  This table will be accepting donations as payment.

15. Will there be activities other than the Bed Race itself?

Yes!  We will have additional activities aimed mostly for kids.  Scheduled to appear are the Bubble Lady, Silly Lilly (clown), and face painting.

16. What is the minimum age for racers?

Racers need to be at least in high school.

17. What if our team is not very competetive?

That is okay!  All that matters is that you come out, have fun, and support a worthy cause!  There will be many teams just like yourselves!  We have even had teams walk the course in previous races.

18. What are the categories?

The categories are High School and Post-High School.  Prizes will be awarded for the top teams in each of these categories.  You will be asked to choose a category when you register.

19. How many people are pushing the bed?

Each team will consist of five individuals.  Four people will push the bed (one on each corner of the bed) and one will ride.

20.  Who is organizing this bed race?

We are the "Bed Race to Aid Children, Inc.," a 501(c)(3) non-profit, which is run strictly by volunteers.  All proceeds from the bed race go directly to providing beds for children in Monroe County.

21.  How is money raised?
