Please read the following rules and regulations:
All bed race vehicles will be provided by Bed Race to Aid Children, Inc., which are modified from a steel structured hospital bed (twin size with mattress) to provide standardization and the utmost in safety for all participants.
A race team consists of five people (male or female, high school age or older). Teams will be categorized and competed in one of three classifications: 1). Those team members in high school, 2). Those post-high through age 50, and 3.) Those 51 and older.
There will be four (4) human runners --no more, no less-- to propel each bed with one occupant riding on the bed. Runners are responsible for stopping their beds and maintaining an overall safe operation of propelling the bed along a pylon marked street course to be announced on race day. Operations deemed unsafe by the judges may be cause for disqualification.
Beds may not be pulled with ropes or chains.
Beds must be raced foot first.
No person may be a member of more than one team.
All participants will conduct themselves according to the highest standards of sportsmanship - particularly with regard to other competitors. Abusive language or gestures may be grounds for disqualification.
TEAM NAME MUST BE DISPLAYED ON BED, AND BE THE SAME AS ON TEAM APPLICATION. Names of sponsors, advertising, slogans and/or logos may be displayed on the beds, provided they are in good taste, securely mounted (foot/head board/sides) and do not interfere with the safe operation of the bed. Any signage must be easily attached and detached in a timely manner from the bed; attaching and detaching of said signage would be the sole responsibility of the individual team members.
All pushers must be able to see the racecourse in front of the bed when they are pushing and maneuvering the bed.
The rider must be on the bed at all times.
In order to qualify for a race, at least four out of five team members must cross the finish line in contact with the bed and three members must also be in contact with the ground when crossing the finish line.
The Bed Race to Aid Children, Inc., will not provide protective headgear for each team member.
Appropriate clothing, footgear and safety headgear, if desired, will be the responsibility of each team member.
Costume clothing is approved (in good taste) and will be judged as a separate category aside from the finished race results and team standings.
In the case of extreme inclement weather (e.g. lightning, tornadoes, etc.) the Bed Race will be canceled and subsequently rescheduled.
Bed Race to Aid Children, Inc., reserves the right to disqualify or remove, at its discretion, any team, costumes, or bed decorations that is deemed inappropriate or defies the spirit of the bed race competition.
